Front page worthy for sure. Awesome job! We don't really see to many of these games with such good quality. Keep up the good work.
The only extra thing I would like to see are weapon upgrades. But even without that, this is really good.

I am giving my vote to Gel based on the fact that it had a much stronger storyline.

If this was the first mario spoof I ever saw, it would have been hilarious. However, there are better ones out there. If you were to slow down your frame rate a little, maybe use some different sounds, and use the authentic Mario sprites for the backgrounds and the blocks.
This was a triumphant effort for your first sprite animation. Better than what I could have done. Good job, keep working.
